We are seeking a kaiako to deliver our new Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills (Level 2) programme, which involves, but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress. Based at our **Whakatāne Campus**, this is a **fixed term (until 18 December 2025) full-time role (37.5hrs per week)** position, which includes delivering face-to-face class learning, 4 days a week from 9am - 3pm.
This Building Construction and Allied Trades Skills (Level 2) programme offers tauira the opportunity to gain practical experience, learning industry fundamentals and, health and safety through a mātauranga Māori lens.
This is one of our innovative pilot programmes, so you will provide ongoing feedback about the course and be supported to deliver a quality educational experience for our tauira.
**Mōu | About you**
You will be someone who has extensive industry knowledge in carpentry and Site Safe Building standards. You will be an experienced and passionate kaiako (teacher/ facilitator). This role involves integrating cultural and ethical considerations that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, reflecting Te Ao Māori and Pacific perspectives throughout the programme.
Ideally you will:
- Certificate Level 4 or higher qualification in carpentry or comparative equivalent
- Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent
- National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 5 (NCALNE-Voc) or completed within 1 year of starting work
- Certificate in First Aid Qualification, Site Safe Building Construction Passport
- Full and current Driver’s license (Class 1) and Passenger Endorsement required
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in carpentry
- Minimum 2+ years of adult teaching and/or facilitation with Rangatahi (15-17 year-olds)
- Experience working with Māori and Tangata Pasifika people
- Intermediate administrative skills to manage student records effectively.
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
