We're on the lookout for a_ Senior Legal Counsel _to join us to provide strategic legal support to the General Counsel and broader Firstgas Group business.

There’s a lot of work underway to future-proof us, including investigating the possibilities of alternative gas, how our existing networks might be able to convert to alternative gasses and everything else that goes along with a changing industry. So, particular experience in these kinds of challenges and an interest in new technologies in the energy and gas industries is highly desirable.

It’s an exciting time for the Firstgas Group, the energy sector in general, as well as for the Legal team. The legal function within Firstgas is relatively young, and is ready for expansion. We need you to be able to hit the ground running. You’ll bring a great sense of fun, pragmatism and some good common sense long with your well-honed analytical and logical thinking.

We’re not looking for a perfectionist - but we are looking for someone who is willing to give anything a go, and the confidence to back their conviction.

In these newly created roles, you can expect to:

- Work closely with people across all businesses within the Firstgas Group, and at all levels of those businesses.
- Be well supported to try new things and do your job a little bit differently
- Develop systems, frameworks and resources to promote:

- Risk-based advice and decision making
- Increased capability within the Firstgas Group
- Better information management within the Legal team
- Deliver high-quality, practical legal advice.
- Come up with strategic solutions to both commonly faced challenges, but also new areas of challenge, within the businesses.

**Qualifications**:
**He aha ou pukemga nui ake ki tenei mahi? - What will set you apart from the rest?**
- LLB and a current practising certificate (or the ability to obtain one)
- 7 years+ PQE (Senior Legal Counsel) or
- A pro-active attitude, and the ability to self-manage most of your workload.
- An interest in mentoring more junior members of the team
- In-depth knowledge of:

- the Gas or energy industry
- pipeline operations and legal issues surround these,
- drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts;
- competition, property and general commercial law.
