For over forty years Te Karere has been at the heart of Māori broadcasting bringing news in te reo Māori to our viewers daily. Our Te Karere team is responsible for providing a Māori perspective on important local, national and international issues.

The opportunity - Te tūranga
We are hiring for a Reporter - Te Karere that reports to the Executive Producer. In this high-profile role, you will responsible for reporting and setting up interviews and other production tasks as required for Te Karere and preparing and researching stories which are of high importance to iwi Māori and te ao Māori

Your key focus in this role will be on:
Ko te aronga matua i tēnei tūranga:
- Establish and maintain familiarity with news, which is of Māori importance pertinent to a Māori speaking audience through newspapers, briefings, wire service, radio and or other sources.
- Deliver well-produced packages/stories in Māori on time and to a given duration.
- Generate story ideas/angles and fresh treatments.
- Clearly communicate story requirements to the crew and co-ordinate the activities of the crew.
- Maintain flow of information about story developments and legal or ethical issues and refer any contentious or unclear issues upward for the Editor.
- Perform live in the studio or field, as required.

- Te tuku i ngā kohinga/kōrero kua pai te whakaputa, i te reo Māori, i te wā tika, ā, ki te roanga e hiahiatia ana.
- Te waihanga i ngā whakaaro me ngā kokenga kōrero, ngā whakahoutanga anō hoki.
- Te āta whakamārama i ngā herenga kōrero ki te kāhui mahi me te ruruku i ngā mahi a te kāhui mahi.
- Kia mau tonu ki te ia o ngā pārongo whakawhanaketanga kōrero me ngā take ture, matatika rānei, me te tuku whakarunga i ngā take tautohetohe, take rangirua rānei ki te Etita.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following

- A Media or Journalism qualification preferred.
- Demonstrates good general knowledge/likes news.
- Maintains a good general knowledge and keen awareness of local, national, and international events and across daily news developments.
- Must be fluent in te reo Maori and English language and grammar.
- A sound knowledge of the proper pronunciation of Maori always.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong attention to detail
- High level decision-making skills.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Good general knowledge across industry.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Focused, and performs well under pressure and able to work with tight deadlines.
