**About us | Mo matou**
The Ministry of Social Development is a people-centred organisation. We're in communities across the motu, working with partners to help New Zealanders be safe, strong and independent.
We provide social policy and advice to government and assistance, including income, employment and housing support to people of all ages, families, whanau and communities.
As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner we are committed to supporting and enabling Maori, whanau, hapu, Iwi and communities to realise their own potential and aspirations.
Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. We care about the wellbeing and success of our people and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment where people can thrive and be who they are.
**About you | Mou**
We're looking for an experienced communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently juggle multiple priorities. You'll have exceptional writing skills, a talent for storytelling, and a commitment to using plain language to connect with diverse audiences. You're comfortable working across multiple channels, particularly digital, and ideally bring some creative flair-whether it's designing newsletters, creating video content, or producing materials to support regional campaigns.
Strong relationship management is key to this role. You're someone who can build trust quickly-both internally and in the community-and confidently manage reputational and brand risks as they arise. A full driver's licence is required, as travel across the region is part of the role.
If you enjoy navigating complexity, working at pace, and being part of a high-performing team, this could be your next great move.
**About the role | Mo te tunga**
Reporting directly to the Regional Commissioner, you'll lead communications and engagement activities across the region. This includes media liaison, stakeholder engagement, and event coordination, as well as managing the regional response to information requests and publications. You'll play a key role in maintaining our public image and ensuring our messaging is consistent, timely, and impactful.
You'll be responsible for drafting and editing content quickly and accurately and will support regional campaigns and initiatives to boost community awareness and engagement-particularly through digital channels. If you're someone who takes initiative, spots opportunities, and enjoys solving problems, you'll thrive in this role.
