Why we're here - Tā mātou tino Kaupapa
For over forty years Te Karere has been at the heart of Māori broadcasting bringing news in te reo Māori to our viewers daily. Our Te Karere team is responsible for providing a Māori perspective on important local, national and international issues.
Neke atu i te whā tekau tau a Te Karere e noho ana ki te iho o ngā whakapāhotanga Māori, e tuku ana i ngā karere i te reo Māori ki ō mātou kaimātakitaki i ia rā. Nō tō mātou tīma i Te Karere te haepapa ki te tuku i te tirohanga Māori ki ngā tino kaupapa o te takiwā, o te motu, ā, o te ao.
The opportunity - Te tūranga
We are hiring for a Political Reporter/ Producer - Te Karere in this key role in the team, you will report and set up interviews and other production tasks as required for Te Karere. Your focus will be on preparing and researching political stories which are of importance to te iwi Māori and te ao Māori. We are looking for someone to continue a high-profile role as one of the major reporter faces (along with presenter)

Your key focus in this role will be on:
Ko te aronga matua i tēnei tūranga:
- Deliver well-produced packages/stories in Māori on time and to a given duration.
- Generate story ideas/angles and fresh treatments and exclusive stories.
- Clearly communicate story requirements to the crew and co-ordinate the activities of the crew.
- Perform live in the studio or field, as required.
- Translate voice-overs and interviews to a standard that portrays correct grammar and punctuation to a non-Maori speaking audience.
- Work in close partnership with the captioning team members.
- Te tuku i ngā kohinga/kōrero kua pai te whakaputa, i te reo Māori, i te wā tika, ā, ki te roanga e hiahiatia ana.
- Te waihanga i ngā whakaaro me ngā kokenga kōrero, ngā whakahoutanga anō hoki.
- Te āta whakamārama i ngā herenga kōrero ki te kāhui mahi me te ruruku i ngā mahi a te kāhui mahi.
- Te pūrongo inamata i te taupuni, i ngā papa rānei, e ai ki te hiahia.
- Whakamāori i ngā reo-āpiti me ngā uiui ki te taumata e whakaatu ana i te reo kia tika me te whakahua tika ki tētahi hunga kāore e kōrero Māori.
- Te mahi tahi ki ngā mema o te tīma whakapūaho.

You'll be brimming with ideas and you'll have the ability to report and produce compelling, reliable and accurate stories for our television and digital audiences that represent the Māori perspective.

You must have a positive attitude, a passion for news and current affairs and the ability to perform live on air.

You'll be a self-starter who knows what it's like to work in fast-paced news. Fluency and flair with te reo Māori is a must.
