Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Cancer Control Agency, is a departmental agency of government that provides national leadership for and oversight of cancer control.
Te Aho o Te Kahu takes a whole-of-system focus on preventing and managing cancer and oversees system-wide prioritisation and coordination of cancer care in New Zealand. It is accountable for ensuring transparent progress towards the goals and outcomes in the National Cancer Action Plan. Te Aho o Te Kahu is equity-led, knowledge-driven, person/whānau-centred and outcomes focused.
The Programme Group encompasses three key areas within the organisation: Data and Analytics, System Performance and Innovation, and Knowledge Translation and Implementation. This dynamic group plays a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation by harnessing the power of data and analytics to inform decision-making, ensuring optimal system performance and fostering innovation, and facilitating the effective translation of knowledge into actionable initiatives
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
Are you ready to make a significant impact on cancer control in Aotearoa? We're seeking a dynamic and visionary Group Manager, Programme to lead our strategic initiatives and shape the future of cancer care. As the Group Manager, Programme, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development and execution of Te Aho o Te Kahu priorities and programmes in collaboration with our partners. You are an inspiring people leader, a naturally collaborative and gifted integrator of work across complex systems, and a strategic thinker with strong political acuity and the ability to find opportunity for positive impact even in challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing leadership to the Programme group, ensuring capacity and capability to contribute effectively, and supporting staff engagement, growth, and development.
- Leading and prioritising agency-wide programmes to deliver practical, consumer-focused solutions aligned with Agency objectives.
- Providing strategic insight and advice to program design, monitoring progress, and proactively managing risks.
- Supporting community health and reducing inequalities through effective models of care across the cancer care continuum.
- Designing stakeholder engagement strategies focused on community and local partnerships to enhance cancer care models.
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to lead the discussion on improving cancer outcomes.
- Ensuring high-quality advice and support for the Chief Executive and Ministers.
- Providing leadership to the Programme group, ensuring capacity and capability to contribute effectively.
- Ensuring all programmes meet Treaty of Waitangi obligations and prioritize equity.
- Building positive relationships across the health sector and government.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualification in a health policy/administration or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience leading and developing employees of all levels of the organisation, including management, and enabling a positive and rewarding workplace culture
- Proven ability to use a range of engagement frameworks and tools to develop, maintain and strengthen strategic partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including national professional networks, communities, iwi, Chief Advisors and Clinical Leaders.
- Strong experience working across an organisation and/or in communities using a collaborative approach that supports seamless integration of work across teams and results in the effective improvement of provision of services.
- Well established networks and facilitation skills to lead discussions on challenging the status quo, driving change and implementing innovation.
- Good working knowledge of the machinery of Government, risk management, commissioning services, managing at the political interface, and policy.
