The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The Chief Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.

The International Development and Engagement (IDE) Team engages with and supports Ombudsmen and integrity institutions across the Asia-Pacific. IDE aims to contribute to lifting good governance, transparency and integrity in the region. The team engages in a way that respects each Ombudsman's independence, is sustainable, is collaborative, and is and is mindful and respectful of different cultures and ways of working. The team also brings learnings from our international colleagues back to our staff, to help inform our own work.
Mō te tūranga - About the role
The Senior Advisor IDE supports the Manager IDE at a high level to deliver an international development and engagement strategy and work programme that will enable the Chief Ombudsman to deliver his international vision. This includes the provision of guidance, training and development support for Ombudsmen or Ombudsman-type anti-corruption and integrity institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, to improve public sector capability and accountability in those countries and promote the operation of stable and effective democratic governance in the region.
The Senior Advisor will provide expert technical advice in support of programme design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation and build proactive and collaborative relationships with Ombudsmen in the Asia-Pacific region.
This is a key position that will step into the manager role in their absence and working collaboratively to provide guidance, training and development support for overseas Ombudsmen, and coach and mentor others to do to the same.

**To be successful in this role ideally you will have**:

- Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in law, international development, international relations or a related field
- Experience as a senior international development practitioner, including leading the design and delivery of a strategy and/or work programme; or experience at a senior level in an investigation, arbitration and/or mediation environment
- Experience providing advice and expertise across international engagement and development-related matters (including training, policy and practice development), to deliver optimal outcomes
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of the Ombudsman and best practice in relevant work areas such as complaint handling, dispute resolution, investigation, good administration and human rights.
- Experience in mentoring, guiding and training staff, along with strong leadership skills
- Experience supporting a team manager and working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Experience working in a developing country context and engaging with people from a wide variety of cultures
- Experience in planning, contributing to and delivering projects using project management methodology and excellent organisational skills

Depending on skills and experience the starting salary is expected to be between $97,000 and $123,400.
