Emergency Management Team Leader
**About us**
The Hawke’s Bay Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group is a shared service arrangement between the five Hawke’s Bay Councils. The Group office is responsible for ensuring that our councils and emergency service partners can effectively coordinate a response to any civil defence emergency. We also work closely with our communities and a wide range of agencies to improve Hawke's Bays’ resilience to emergencies through a proactive approach to community engagement and education. The key focus of the team is to collaboratively work with other councils, partner organisations and the community to increase the regions ability to respond and recover from emergencies.
**About the Opportunity**:
While emergencies and disasters cannot be prevented entirely, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the impact of hazards on organisations and communities. This key leadership role will manage the Hazard Identification and Research Programme and help support the programme to reduce our risk to hazards by ensuring that the information regarding hazards is communicated back to members of the wider team, relevant organisations and communities in a clear and comprehensive manner. This diverse and interesting role will also see you supporting local response and recovery activities during an emergency event. Alongside this you will manage a specialist team of two working in risk reduction roles, ensuring they have the knowledge, tools and resources to be successful in their work.
**About you**:
This is a great opportunity for someone looking for their next challenge and to take the jump into a leadership role. We need a solution focused individual with a passion for people, who can commit to supporting, nurturing and developing a team. In return we offer a supportive and encouraging working environment that will enable you to grow and develop both yourself and your team.
Ideally you will also have:
- A recognised degree level tertiary qualification (Level 7 or above) and/or significant relevant experience specialising in the management of natural hazards, geological or earth sciences.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role/relevant industry
- An understanding of the national geophysical research environment.
- Good knowledge and experience of civil defence delivery at a local and regional level.
- Knowledge of natural hazard risk assessment and management.
- A high level of project management skills and/or programme management.
- Experience leading and working in teams
If you have an interest in supporting communities to be more resilient to the hazards in our region then we can provide a diverse and interesting workload with plenty of challenges and variety to keep you on your toes
All applicants must have existing rights to work in New Zealand.
