**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) plays a central role in shaping and delivering a strong New Zealand. We are currently seeking for a dynamic Senior Analyst to join our Evidence and Insights team.

In this role you will draw on your understanding of data, research and evaluation to inform service provision across Evidence and Insights. With your strategic and critical thinking you will contribute to the provision of authoritative advice to our key stakeholders. You will engage with our customers and work with the team to promulgate the insights being generated by the wider Evidence and Insights team.

Using your strong business acumen, you will share a positive and consultative working relationship with clientele and stakeholders and ensure that we are delivering products which support and ensure MBIE’s outcomes and deliverables are achieved. With a background in research, evaluation and data you will contribute to the provision of insights in relation to ISPD products and performance reporting for Evidence and Insights.

In detail, the function of this position requires an understanding of data, research and evaluation. Technical skills in data analysis would be an advantage as too is a sound understanding of research and evaluation designs and frameworks. You will be working in collaboration with the Manager Insights Stewardship and Practice Development in delivering and providing practical advice on analytic strategies and on shaping the team’s public facing tools. You will provide support to the Manager for governance related work and wider Digital Data and Insights engagement.

Deep technical knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas:

- Data management and analysis including solving complex problems with efficient and reproducible analytics; statistical/programme language; data visualisation; and statistical/econometric modelling, inference and forecasting/prediction in domains such as complex surveys and time series; development of repeatable processes and tasks through development of scripts using SQL,R and/or Python; creation of insights-based dashboards, data visualisation and/or reports; assist with the development of the required data models, ontologies and data classifications; understanding of the importance of data quality, data being fit for purpose, and it’s use maximised; knowledge of ELT/ETL processes and informatica and snowflake platforms desirable.
- Research methods including qualitative and quantitative methods, ethics, survey management, managing outsourced experts, using the New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) etc.
- Evaluation including design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and projects, and selection of appropriate approaches and methods. Personal specifications

- Ability to perceive, communicate and adopt new ways of looking at problems
- Communicates effectively to diverse team members, clients, and stakeholders
- Understanding of Crown responsibilities under te Tiriti o Waitangi, knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Māori Data Sovereignty principles.
- Previous public sector experience is preferred but not essential.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a related area.
