**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Analyst to join our Tourism Evidence and Insights team within MBIE's Evidence and Insights unit. You will be a key part of the team in leading projects across the whole data value chain - collating, analysing tourism data, and presenting it using interactive data visualisation methods. You will also play a significant role in brokering data and digital solutions, working closely with partners and stakeholders in the IT, Tourism and Policy spaces.
- Lead a project team of Data and Research Analysts to maintain and further develop the Tourism Evidence and Insights Centre (TEIC).
- Collaborate with data providers, users and stakeholders to prioritise analytics projects considering user needs, assessed value-add and resourcing requirements.
- Play a lead role in empowering users by setting standards and using best practice in developing interactive insights for TEIC and Sustainable Tourism Explorer.
As a Senior Research and Data Analyst, you will lead engagement with Tourism Policy teams and Data Governance groups at MBIE to support the development of evidence-based tourism policy settings, and with the Tourism Evidence and Insights team to better respond to information needs of key stakeholders.
You will be working in partnership with the Manager Tourism Evidence and Insights in delivering and providing data management and analysis modelling. This is a multi-disciplinary team of Researchers, Evaluators and Analysts who practice a range of methodologies to deliver pragmatic and tangible solutions to support development in New Zealand. Our work is interesting, topical and has real impact.
Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:
- Intermediate or advance language skills in R; CSS; HTML; JavaScript and SQL.
- Experience leading data management, web development and analytics projects.
- Sound project management skills, effectively managing wide-ranging tasks and activities.
- Proven experience in statistical modelling.
- Ability to clearly communicate insights and technical approaches verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate modular and well-documented programme skills.
- Experience in Azure DevOps is a bonus.
- Have 3 years or more experience in a related field.

- Led data production, with experience in implementing data quality precautions and developing governance.
- Led projects creating insightful visualisations, telling stories with data and conveying insights.
- A passion for generating insights that enable decision making.
- Excellent communication and writing skills to embed a culture of excellence.
- Know the value of collaboration, confident in working with others with diverse skillsets and perspectives.
- A tertiary qualification involving data science or statistics.
