**Starting salary**: $114,614 - $153,654 negotiable + superannuation

Te tūnga | The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Advisor to join Te Tohu Rautaki Angitu Māori. The Principal Advisor will report to the General Manager and will be a part of the Te Tohu leadership team. Te Tohu Rautaki Angitu Māori advances Māori data aspirations and leads the organisation to deliver for and with Māori, iwi, and hapū through transformational change, strategic leadership, and advice. We do this by:
- Bringing Te Tiriti to the heart of decision making
- Navigating the world of internal and external partnerships.
- Stengthening our Tiriti partnership to enable Māori data aspirations
- Empowering Stats NZ to deliver for and with Māori, iwi and hapū
The Principal Advisor role provides critical thought leadership, advice and delivery to enable a work programme that serves the data aspirations of our iwi and Māori partners as they deliver outcomes that positively impact the lives of their people.
We are looking for a principal who is passionate about Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori, has proven experience operating in a similar role, understands the machinery of government and has well-developed analytical and writing skills. In this role, you will get the opportunity to:
- Work with the leaders in Te Tohu Rautaki Angitu Māori to shape and drive a work programme that brings about new opportunities for iwi-Māori and for Stats NZ
- Lead and grow the capability of Te Tohu advisory function and roles
- Lead important mahi to drive Māori data aspirations and implement elements of Māori Data Governance across the data ecosystem
- Be part of a team that is driving organisational change through the strategic priority to deliver for and with Māori, iwi and hapū
Nōu te rourou | What you bring
We are looking for someone who leads from wherever they are and will work hard to not only advocate for our partners but look for ways for Stats to step back and allow our partners to lead. You will be a galvanising force across Te Tohu, linking work and people as you look across our functions. You will provide timely and challenging advice to Te Tohu and Stats NZ leadership more generally.
You build effective and high trust relationships and will be seen as a trusted partner by iwi and Māori, as well as government colleagues. You listen to understand and are a strong and authentic communicator, distilling complex or technical concepts into plain language to ensure that everyone understands the why. You are an organisational guru and can keep track of where various requests and mahi are at any given time. We're looking for someone who enjoys a vibrant and energetic team environment and working with people who are passionate about the potential of their work to deliver real change for our people.

- Experience performing using data analysis systems
