**Job Description - Livestock Farm Manager**

**Reports To**: Owner/Director

**Job Summary**: The Livestock Farm Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the livestock farm. This role involves planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of livestock production to ensure efficient and profitable operations while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Livestock Management**:

- Oversee the care and management of livestock, including feeding, breeding, health care, and overall welfare.
- Monitor the health and well-being of livestock and coordinate with veterinarians for routine and emergency care.
- Implement and manage breeding programs to ensure healthy and productive livestock populations.
- Maintain accurate records of livestock, including births, deaths, illnesses, treatments, and production levels.
- **Farm Operations**:

- Develop and implement farm operational plans and schedules, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
- Manage the procurement, storage, and use of feed, supplements, and other farm supplies.
- Supervise and train farm staff, ensuring they follow best practices and farm protocols.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
- **Financial Management**:

- Prepare and manage the farm’s budget, including forecasting costs and revenues.
- Monitor and control expenses to ensure the farm operates within budget.
- Maintain accurate financial records and prepare reports on farm performance.
- **Regulatory Compliance**:

- Ensure the farm complies with all relevant regulations, including animal welfare, environmental, and health and safety standards.
- Keep up to date with changes in regulations and implement necessary changes to farm practices.
- **Environmental Stewardship**:

- Implement sustainable farming practices to minimize environmental impact.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling processes to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- **Marketing and Sales**:

- Develop and maintain relationships with buyers and suppliers.
- Plan and implement marketing strategies.
- Coordinate the sale and distribution of livestock and farm products.

**Requirements**:

- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Business/Animal science, or a related field, OR a minimum of 5 years’ experience in livestock management.
- **Skills**:

- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Good financial acumen and budgeting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

**Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)**:

- **Livestock Health and Productivity**:

- Low mortality and morbidity rates.
- High reproduction and growth rates.
- Optimal feed conversion ratios.
- **Operational Efficiency**:

- Timely completion of farm tasks and schedules.
- Effective management of farm resources and supplies.
- Minimal downtime of farm equipment and infrastructure.
- **Financial Performance**:

- Farm operates within budget.
- Achieving or exceeding revenue targets.
- Cost savings through efficient farm practices.
- **Regulatory Compliance**:

- No violations of animal welfare, environmental, or health and safety regulations.
- Timely and accurate reporting and record-keeping.
- **Environmental Impact**:

- Reduction in waste and efficient use of resources.
- Implementation of sustainable farming practices.
- **Employee Performance**:

- High levels of staff productivity and morale.
- Low staff turnover and absenteeism.
- Effective staff training and development programs.

Minimum hours per week - 30

Salary/Wages - $30/hour

Employment Type: Full Time (Permanent)

Location - Bay of Plenty

Pay: $30.00 per hour
