Assistant Herd Manager

Your duties will include but not limited to: ∙
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the dairy herd including milking, feeding, calving and breeding programs.
- Develop and implement seasonal herd management plans.
- Managing livestock breeding programs and rearing young livestock.
- Oversee milking operations, ensuring adherence to milk hygiene and shed management standards.
- Maintain accurate records of milk production, animal health and breeding activities.
- Monitor and maintain herd health, fertility, calving and rearing of young stock and identify livestock health and nutrition issues.
- Managing pasture rotation, feed allocation, and supplementary feeding programs to optimise production. ∙Supervising animal health and welfare programs.
- Developing and implementing livestock feeding plans.
- Implementing biosecurity management measures.
- Overseeing general farm activities, including the maintenance and cleaning of livestock housing and other farm infrastructure.
- Select, train and supervise farm staff to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Managing, maintaining and operating data collection and analysis systems.
- Promoting and maintaining a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture by actively identifying and addressing farm hazards and biosecurity risks and accurately recording and reporting any accidents or incidents. Additional Management Responsibilities:
- Contribute to farm budgeting, resource allocation and cost control to ensure sustainable operations.
- Monitor and analyse farm performance data (milk yields, feed efficiency, animal health trends) to improve productivity.
- Oversee effluent management systems and ensure compliance with environmental sustainability requirements.
- Coordinate with veterinarians, nutritionists, contractors, suppliers and other industry professionals to support herd performance and farm operations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (milk supply standards, animal welfare codes, workplace health & safety) and prepare reports for owners or management.
Qualification, Experience, and Attributes Required: ∙
- 2 - 3 years relevant experience or a relevant Level 7 qualification.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as required.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Pay and Benefit ∙Full-time permanent employment. ∙Minimum of 40 hours/week guaranteed.
- Pay rate ranges between $31 per hour - $36 per hour.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $31.00 - $36.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 30.00 per week
