A key part of our efforts to reduce reoffending is our suite of medium intensity therapeutic programmes [Medium Intensity Rehabilitation Programme, Te Whare Hāpai Tangata, Kowhiritanga, Short Rehabilitation Programme etc]. These are delivered throughout New Zealand both in prisons and in the community. They are carefully designed to be effective and are delivered by trained internal programme facilitators.
This role sits within the Psychology and Programmes team within Māori Services at the Department of Corrections' National Office.
This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in supporting and uplifting practice and as well as contributing to and overseeing specialist projects [including Programme Design]. This role directly supports the Manager Rehabilitation Programmes and has a key function of leading and developing policy and practice advise for Programme Facilitators.
You will have the ability to work with a large range of stakeholders across the motu and will have an integral role in the strengthening of our bi-cultural practice. In addition you will have the opportunity to contribute to the wider Psychology & Programmes team at national level.
- Experience in delivering rehabilitation programmes to people who have offended
- Understanding of Te Ao Māori/Tikanga Māori and bi-cultural practice
- Commitment to contributing to the outcomes of Hōkai Rangi
- Sound clinical knowledge of group practice
- Ability to lead projects and deliver on strategic goals
- Strong relationship management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound judgement and problem solving skills
- Available for Travel
- Supervision of group practice an advantage
- Knowledge of the evidence-based approach to Corrections' rehabilitation

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range is $110,091- $155,423. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
