**About the role | Mō te tūnga**
This position will suit applicants with considerable research experience in the criminal justice setting. This Senior Advisor position offers a unique opportunity to undertake and assist with managing and co-ordinating the research programme of Psychological Services.
The Senior Adviser Research is a newly developed role that works with the Principal Advisor Research to undertake research relevant to the psychology space. The Principal Advisor Research will oversee the allocation of work to this role. The role accountabilities include:
- Develop and deliver specialist training and education relevant to research-related issues to staff of the Psychological Service, and as required to the wider department and other Government and non-Governmental agencies.
- Provide training and advice to the Psychologists and other key stakeholders on risk assessment tools and research generated within the role.
- Provide expert guidance around research undertaken in the role.
- Develop research proposals with the support and direction of the Principal Advisor Research.
- Undertake and manage assigned research, including planning, liaison and supervision of non-clinical staff.
- Provide advice on Departmental and Governmental policy papers and proposals.
- Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholder to support quality research initiatives.
- Assist with building and maintaining relationships with local Universities, NGO's, and Kaupapa Māori organisations and services.

This role offers an opportunity to join a specialised team of experienced psychologists who provide clinical leadership to one of the largest groups of psychologists in New Zealand. This role will offer a unique chance to be involved in psychological research. **About you | Mōu**
The successful applicant will have:
- Specialist skills in the area of quantitative analysis and psychometrics, programme evaluation, and the evaluation of recidivism; including the statistical software packages required to undertake such analysis and evaluation
- Extensive experience working with large-scale datasets; proficiency in both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access databases
- An in-depth understanding of bicultural approaches to research and an ability to incorporate cross-cultural methodologies
- A high level of competence in report and policy document writing for Government Departments
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrated abilities in training in forensic/criminal justice areas
- Specialist skills and expertise in risk assessment
- High level of organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability in resource management
- Skilled in the area of policy development and analysis
**Qualifications**
- Postgraduate qualifications in Psychology.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative research
**Utu ā-tau | Salary**
The mid point of the salary range is $108,180 and the full range (85%-120%) is $91,953 - $129,816. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
