Ngā kawenga | About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our Reintegration and Community Services team.
As an experienced Principal Adviser, you will provide high quality strategic direction and advice across the reintegration services team to support the development and implementation of a consistent approach to reintegrative services (including education, training/industries, employment and housing) to enable connected and effective reintegration services for people in our management. Reintegrative services are offered in both prison and community environments. Services are delivered by staff, NGO's, Iwi and hapu providers and other third parties.
You'll be working with Reintegration teams and other key stakeholders across the country to develop strategic commissioning plans so that our services are flexible, responsive and meet the needs of those under our management.
You will bring your excellent thought leadership and highly developed writing skills, and you'll be comfortable providing advice to a range of audiences both internal and external. Previous New Zealand government experience is essential, as is your ability to respond to a variety of requests, often within tight timeframes.
**Some of the tasks you will be responsible for include**:
- Lead co-design and co-development of services/supports that are responsive, people and whānau -centric and community-led
- Provides direction, coaching and oversight of Senior Advisers within their team and is a key conduit to support the regional reintegrative teams
- Review, analyse and interpret funding, service provisions and data to deliver recommendations and funding strategies to senior leaders and decision-makers
- Understands employment, industry social services, housing and education trends at a national and regional level
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of initiatives and report regularly.
This permanent position is full-time, Monday - Friday, working 40 hours a week.
Position is based in Wellington, however your location can be flexible across Aotearoa.

We're looking for someone with a passion and deep knowledge of reintegration, in its widest sense, and working closely with whānau and communities. A key area that it essential in this team is experience and comfort working alongside iwi.
If you have a strong track record of navigating and delivering in that space, combined with an excellent knowledge of machinery of government, this role is for you
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Exceptional communication and writing skills is a must in this role, alongside other keys skills and experience such as:
- Significant experience within the commissioning cycle, and implementing strategies, plans or projects within a corrections or similar environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-level strategic issues and deliver complex work programmes
- Experience dealing with and understanding the factors that impact rehabilitation and reintegration, coupled with a sound working knowledge of key agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, in the social/justice sectors
- A strategic thinker with advanced problem solving and analytical skills, to influence and contribute to the delivery of shared outcomes
- Can operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting (Te Reo, Tikanga and an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi).
This position requires a tertiary qualification and /or significant experience in a related role or discipline in the social services sector.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The mid point of the salary range is $137,525 and the full range (85%-120%) is $116,897 - $165,030. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
