Fixed Term (2 Years) & Permanent Full-Time

**Location**: Wellington
Senior Analyst $92,073 to $124,570
Principal Analyst $128,247 to $173,511

Ma tau rourou, ma taku rourou, ka ora te iwi (with your contribution and my contribution the people will prosper)
- Do you have a background in the primary sector, economics, science, policy, regulatory policy, stakeholder engagement or Te Ao Māori affairs?
- Do global and domestic economic and environmental sustainability issues and their impact on the future of New Zealand's primary production and land-use interest you?
- Then read on, we have a great opportunity for you

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Forestry and Bioeconomy Policy Team is recruiting for 2x permanent and 2x fixed-term(2 years) Principal and Senior Advisers. The team leads policy direction for forestry and trees to support a sustainable low emissions future - particularly focussed on ensuring new forest plantings contribute to the Government's goals for climate change and sustainable land use.

**Join us for the opportunity to**:

- Work in a high-profile primary sector policy area that contributes significantly to the New Zealand economy and well-being of all New Zealanders
- Support and lead on MPI's contribution to the government's ambitious programmes for sustainable economic growth, emissions reduction and land use changes
- Work closely with Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service, the Ministry for the Environment, Department of Conservation and multiple stakeholder groups, and be a part of a high performing and engaging directorate

There is a lot of change happening about how forestry can contribute to New Zealand's economy, our environment and climate change and impacts on local communities. You can help shape this in a fast-moving area working with enthusiastic and collaborative colleagues.

Ko te tangata mo tēnei tūranga? - Who are we looking for?

**We are looking for**:

- Experienced policy professionals who can think strategically and use evidence and critical thinking to inform your work.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality advice that meets organisation needs and delivers on long-term goals and objectives
- Superb communicators with influencing skills that will allow you to work collaboratively within MPI, across government and with external stakeholder groups.
- A solid understanding of legislative frameworks and processes and machinery of government.
- A willingness to provide intellectual and professional leadership and support to others
- Sound judgement, integrity and discretion.

If you have excellent writing and verbal skills and are a motivated critical thinker that can identify effective solutions and be able to respond to requests with short time frames, then these could be the roles for you.

**Principal Policy Advisers**: We're looking for principal policy roles across our native afforestation and land use change programmes. You will provide thought leadership to shape the scope and ambition of long-term strategies and collaborate with internal MPI and external agency partners. Assist in building the capability of other team members and contributing to a high-performing team culture.

**Senior Policy Analysts**: We're looking for people with strong policy, machinery of government and strategic systems thinking experience. Develop our forestry policy proposals and regulatory initiatives for a long-term native afforestation strategy and action plan, and for land use change programmes. You will have the opportunity to shape the forward policy work programme in these areas.

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
The Forestry and Bioeconomy Policy team's work spans forestry issues relating to climate change, emissions reduction planning, indigenous and native afforestation, and land use change.
