About the Role
Sushi Ball House is looking for an experienced Cook to join our team at our Ilam location in Christchurch. This is a full-time, permanent position suited for someone with proven experience in preparing and cooking Japanese cuisine.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Check ingredients and raw materials to ensure they meet quality and freshness standards
Operate and monitor cooking equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers, and rice cookers
Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes, including hot and cold menu items
Taste and adjust seasonings during the cooking process to maintain flavour consistency
Plate meals in an appealing and accurate manner, adding sauces, garnishes, and side accompaniments as required
Follow food safety practices, including proper storage of ingredients in chilled or heated environments
Prepare meals to accommodate customer dietary needs or allergy requirements when requested
Assist in planning and updating menus, estimating ingredient quantities needed for service
May be involved in training or mentoring junior kitchen staff and apprentices in Japanese cooking techniques

**Requirements**:To be considered for this role, you must have**:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, and/or A relevant Level 4 qualification or higher in cookery
Proficiency in Japanese cooking, including preparation of sauces, use of traditional cooking methods, and operation of specialised cooking equipment
