St George’s Hospital is one of the largest private hospitals in New Zealand and one of the most modern in terms of equipment, services, and technology. St George’s services include surgical, medical, cancer care and maternity. As a charitable trust, funds are reinvested back into the hospital and patient care. Growth of the hospital and services has been extensive across the last 15 years and will continue into the future.
Given the size of St George’s Hospital, the intricacies required to run specialised services and recognising the cumulative value within the plant, this characterises an investment rich environment. Your management approach needs to identify an overarching plan supported by comprehensive and integrated smart systems and processes. A key part to any plan will lie in engaging and optimizing technology to support the plan and anticipate future growth.
The Facility Manager takes responsibility for pro-actively supporting and managing the entire asset base beyond just maintenance. Continuity and sustainability of operations and services across the hospital and to its tenant base is fundamental.
Proven capability and results will see this role also participate at the concept and design phases of any planned growth providing input into any potential downstream considerations.
To achieve in this environment will require someone from a strong technical background with experience in integrating systems and technology to produce a smart facilities management framework. However, it is not all about technical competence as St George’s has a number of strategic partners operating on site as tenants and your ability to maintain services and build strong relationships using timely and clear communication across the organisation is key.
With consideration of future demand in mind, you will require capability in determining the competencies required across your team to not only ensure consistent regulatory compliance but also ongoing sustainability that meets the expectation of your stakeholder group. Developing your team by providing strong leadership will be a key pillar for success.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior level Facilities Manager to take the existing framework to the next level of capability and participate at a strategic level in the future planning of St George’s Hospital.
