We have a position available in the Department of General Practice and Rural Health (GPRH) as a Senior Professional Practice Fellow.

**_About us/Mō mātou_**

The GPRH Department is one of eight departments within the Dunedin School of Medicine in the Otago Medical School. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical teaching, postgraduate teaching, and supervision of research students at all levels, from Summer Studentships to PhDs.

The Rural section of the Department is distributed, with staff based in a number of rural and provincial locations throughout New Zealand.

The position is based in Southland.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

As a Senior Professional Practice Fellow in our Department, your primary focus will be on teaching students in year 4 of the MBChB degree programme, as part of our Urban General Practice Module. These students come to GPRH to learn medicine in a primary care context, which includes clinical placements with GPs. The Urban General Practice Module is held four times per year and, while the majority of students are based in Dunedin, a number of students undertake their placement in Invercargill.

Some key tasks include:

- Delivery of tutorials and other teaching events that are already embedded in the curriculum to students on placement in Invercargill.
- Academic oversight and pastoral care of students on placement in Invercargill.
- Development of new tutorial content, in collaboration with existing members of the teaching team.
- Participation in the assessment of students.
- Carrying out administration responsibilities related to the teaching programme.
- Recruitment, liaison and relationship maintenance with placement practices and General Practitioners in Invercargill.

- Evidence of an ability to work well with people from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to travel to Dunedin at least four times per year to participate in teaching or assessment activities.
- A commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and to equal opportunity.
- Previous teaching experience in a tertiary environment would be advantageous but is not essential, as appropriate support will be provided by existing teaching staff.
