**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**
The Chief Allied Health Officer works closely with Allied Health workforces to provide monitoring and assurance through strategic and professional leadership.
Key functions are:
- Provide strategic leadership to enhance quality health outcomes with respect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Champion excellence in allied health clinical care and professional standards and conduct particularly as it pertains to Māori whānau, iwi and hapu utilising partnerships across the sector
- Provide leadership in clinical quality and risk management and monitoring, workforce development and research and development
**Te whiwhinga mahi|The Opportunity**
As a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive and Board, the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) is the most senior allied health position and exists to promote high quality patient care and health outcomes for Māori whānau, iwi and hapū. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CAHPO actively provides leadership and support for organisational performance and monitoring and representation of allied health matters at the executive level to the Chief Executive. The Chief Allied Health will work alongside the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Medical Officer for broader clinical interdisciplinary matters and in partnership with Allied Health lead colleagues at Te Whatu Ora and Manatū Hauora.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
**Essential**:
- NZ registration as an Allied Health Professional with a current Annual Practising Certificate
- Been registered for minimum of 10 years
- Demonstrated broad experience as an Allied Health clinician of 10-15 years
- Minimum of five years in a senior leadership role with previous experience in a clinical leadership role
- Interest and proven record in academic research
- Experience in leading transformational systems change with respect to implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Willingness to personally take a stand for equity and anti-racism
- Ability to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisation's vision, purpose and goals
- Proven experience successfully leading large diverse teams through change and quality improvement initiatives while navigating a highly nuanced and complex system
- Experience in leading organisational strategy development, strategic stakeholder management, and government support functions
- Financial and business management - demonstrating ability to translate strategic goals into business outcomes
**Desired**:
- Relevant Masters' degree completed or in progress (preferable)
- Whakapapa Māori
- Understanding of The Waitangi Tribunal claims (Wai 1315 and Wai 2687), in particular Wai 2575 Health Services and Outcomes Kaupapa Inquiry Stage One Report, and the relevance to the basis for the health reforms.

Te Aka Whai Ora - Māori Health Authority is a newly established independent statutory entity responsible for enabling greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. This will be achieved by embedding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as central components of Aotearoa New Zealand's health reform.
Te Aka Whai Ora will play an essential role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring everyone has the equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their own health and wellbeing. Te Aka Whai Ora will work in partnership with Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health and Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand and enable Iwi-Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.
