**He angitutanga | About the role**

Based in Auckland CBD, this role forms a critical part of the new Auckland Marine District.

This District's focus includes Marine Reserves, Marine Mammal Regulations & the Proposed Hauraki Gulf / Tikapa Moana Marine Protection Bill, alongside a varied range of other moana / marine focused conservation activities.

With wide variety in your tasks, you will collaborate with all workstreams of this District, ensuring that essential planning, delivery and reviews are completed. Your ability to work to critical deadlines while managing multiple tasks will help ensure the success of the entire team.

Key areas of focus for this role include;
- Community & Advocacy - supporting our seasonal and advocacy ranger program, planning and delivering outreach events and engaging with the public regarding Marine Protection.
- Critical Logistics - Supporting our Marine Protection Rangers with the management of compliance cases, planning and tracking vessel maintenance and staff training, plus monitoring legislative requirements for operating commercial vessels.

You will be provided with a range of training and skill development, including the DOC Warranted Officer Training Program, enabling you to engage with and resolve compliance situations.

Flexibility in your availability will be highly advantageous, as this role requires you to work weekends and public holidays as required. You will also need the ability to travel and be away from home for multiple days.

You will also need to successfully pass both Police Vetting & Ministry of Justice Checks.

- Excellent organisational Skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with a wide range of individuals and teams, and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with experience in report writing.
- Outstanding time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and maintain a high level of accuracy while working towards fixed deadlines.
- A broad understanding of conservation legislation and management and how it contributes to New Zealand's future sustainability.
- Well-developed sense of cultural awareness, particularly in Te Ao Maori.
- Flexibility to take on other tasks as reasonably required by DOC, with the ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Commitment to marine sustainability and Te Papa Atawhai's Kaupapa.
- Tertiary qualification in conservation or a related area
- The ability to communicate in multiple languages, with proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese and Te Reo Maori being highly desirable.
- A full NZ Driving Licence, including the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
