In the pūrakau (ancient legend), when Tāwhaki ascended into heaven to attain the three baskets of knowledge, he also collected two mauri stones named ‘Hōkai nuku' and ‘Hōkai rangi'. These stones were seen as supporting the three baskets of knowledge, with one having the ability to look back into the past, while the other provided a vision into the future.
Te Aka Whai Ora and all its communities, whānau, and health providers are likened to Tāwhaki in seeking out ora or health and wellbeing. As we navigate through our initial years of work, together with our partner Te Whatu Ora - Health NZ we represent a new and exciting future for health where we can achieve better health outcomes and wellbeing for all our people - _whakahiko i te oranga whānau_

**Te whiwhinga mahi I The Opportunity**:
This is a senior-level role that acts as a pae manaaki across the **Te Aka Hapori**:
- Public and Population Health Directorate, enabling and supporting the team to achieve Pae Ora - Healthy Futures through the mahi we deliver.** **Walking alongside the Maiaka and directorate managers, the **Pou Ratonga** - _Business Support Manager_ will monitor and coordinate a work programme that embodies manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga and rangatiratanga.
Our Public and Population Health Directorate (P&PH) includes five teams who focus on, health promotion, health protection, national screening programmes (bowel, cervical, breast, prostate), injury prevention, alcohol and tobacco/vaping control, environmental health, communicable disease control. Many of these services include a regulatory component performed by statutory officers. This team also focuses on developing Te Ao Māori Population Health approaches to support regions and localities to embed this broader Hauora view of health in Wai Ora, Mauri Ora and Whānau Ora. Across regions we manage Hauora Māori Partner (Māori providers) relationships and their contracts, local Iwi Māori Partnership Board relationships Local, Inter-agency regional relationships to encourage participation and investment in relevant areas of Locality Plans and do a lot of work with NZPHS and Te Whatu Ora - Health NZ equivalent colleagues at a national and regional level:
**We will support you to become successful in this role as you**:
- Coordinate and lead the review and delivery of briefings, progress updates, ELT and board papers, and responses to requests from Ministers offices including, but not limited to WPQs, OPQs, OIAs.
- Put in place mechanisms to enhance the groups capability to deliver on its responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Build and advance deliberate strategic alliances of Te Aka Whai Ora, across programmes.
- Guide our teams to develop and deliver sound advice and recommendations to lead the Health Sector.
- Identify, monitor and mitigate issues and risks across our teams.
- Develop and monitor the strategic plan to support the directorates core activities.
- Coordinate and lead out all administrative operational and business support matters, including the secretarial responsibilities across the groups.
- Ensuring all work reflects Directorate responsibilities to the priority of equity and the five priorities outlined in Wai2575:
These roles are instrumental in supporting the wider, Leadership Team to deliver services that transform the sector through a te ao Māori worldview, and addressing inequities for Māori within the system, whilst ensuring that whānau can support themselves in settings and places that work best for them and their wider whānau.
