Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, health promotion, prevention, protection and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally coordinated and locally delivered. This is a full-time, permanent high-level busy role reporting to the National Director of the NPHS.
As part of the National Public Health Service Leadership team, the primary purpose of the Director, Prevention role is to lead the National Health Prevention Function.
This permanent, full-time role will see you lead operational and transformational changes to achieve equitable prevention services that are grounded in Te Tiriti O Waitangi principles. Our Prevention services include all National adult and childhood immunisation and screening services. The goal is to achieve high and equitable bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening rates and high and equitable immunisation rates. The opportunity exists to work as a team of teams, both as part of the NPHS Leadership Team and in partnership with the General Manager, Public and Population Health, Te Aka Whai Ora. Providing national leadership of prevention services while supporting regional coordination and local service delivery. Ensuring that the National service has strong regional and local relationships.
Mōu | About you
As an experienced people leader, you will have successfully led and managed teams within an organization where high level organizational acumen and political nous was required to create and deliver a strategic plan together with a multi-layered operating model. You will have experience successfully leading large diverse teams through change and achieving improved results while navigating a highly nuanced and complex system.

- Proven experience in successfully developing and maintaining a structured approach to managing a wide range of stakeholder and professional relationships both internally and externally
- Good understanding of quality systems and process, operational and Information technology programme management and workforce development to deliver on new initiatives and opportunities for change
- Understanding and experience of using planning and performance management activities to drive change and outcomes
- Previous senior management level experience in the public sector and health sector
- Able to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams
