**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
The Principal Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring the health and disability system has the right people with the right skills, in the right place at the right time to meet the changing and increasingly complex needs of New Zealanders now and in the future.
The success of the Te Whatu Ora Workforce Strategy relies on quality. The Principal Advisor leads the translation of strategic policy into high quality operational policy. This includes the design and development of the systems, methodologies, tools, guidance, and policy instruments required to translate policy into operational practice.
The Principal Advisor is a key senior role in the Workforce Planning and Development function, providing thought leadership, advice and support to the leadership team and other colleagues across the business unit.

- Excellent analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate new information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences.
- Knowledge and skills to deal effectively with complex and politically sensitive situations or topics.
- Demonstrates a drive to deliver and take personal responsibility - has organising, planning and time management skills so able to multitask, reprioritise and react to issues that arise whilst keeping calm and professional in demanding situations.

We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures greater access, experience, and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system - Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.
