At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

Te Mahau | Te Pae Aronui (Operations & Integration) use information, insights and service design functions to help the three Te Mahau frontline groups design and deliver services for our sector. Find out more about Te Pae Aronui here.
Te Pae Aronui was established as part of a wider change to provide the education sector with support and services that are more locally responsive, more accessible, and more integrated.
Te Pae Aronui provides the service design, data insights, regulation, learning and other support our three frontline Te Mahau regional teams rely on to support educators, ākonga, whānau and communities.
**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**
The Principal Advisor supports the Director Claims and Engagement in leading the design, development and implementation of key projects with the aim of developing policies and processes across the Sensitive Claims team.
The Sensitive Claims team works with people who have raised allegations of historic abuse in a state education context, progressing through an Alternative Dispute Resolution process to provide redress.
The Principal Advisor will operate with a high degree of judgement and understanding of complexity and managing risks, to ensure all activities are delivered to a high standard.The Principal Advisor is a key member of the team and is expected to collaborate with staff across the wider group, with a particular focus on ensuring the best possible experience for sensitive claimants, maintaining strategic oversight of sensitive claims functions and processes, and managing relationships within and outside of the Ministry.

**Mōhou ake | About you**
You will have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience, knowledge about Machinery of Government and be enthusiastic about delivering real business improvements that make a difference to sensitive claimants. You take a collaborative approach to your mahi and work well with others to present innovative and efficient responses to issues and opportunities.
You will also offer the following:
- Well-developed critical thinking and sound judgement the ability to analyse information, develop options and think strategically
- Ability to produce high quality, clear and concise written communications
- Capacity to research and respond quickly to emerging or emergency issues
- Proven communication, relationship management and negotiation skills
- Proactive and results-focused, with the ability to demonstrate judgement, consult and seek advice where necessary

- Highly developed systems thinking ability i.e., able to see how organisational systems interact and influence each other, and how these systems create and contribute to specific issues and strengths
- Strong service delivery ethic and the ability to consider issues relating to sensitive claims with empathy and aroha
- An understanding of working in a change transition environment
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse group of people
- Ability to identify problems, synthesise and interpret information, offer improvements, and provide or develop practical solutions
