The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our National Bowel Screening team as a **Principal Advisor**, reporting into the Manager for the National Bowel Screening Programme. This role is critical in enabling the delivery of the NPHS strategic agenda for Pae Ora (Healthy Futures).

The Principal Advisor provides advice and leadership to the work of the National Bowel Screening Programme. Key responsibilities include senior policy expertise and strategic guidance to inform future decision making ensuring that the advice and actions of the team include the voice of lived experience and improve bowel screening health outcomes. This role will provide expert advice for the provision of high quality, strategic and operational advice, leadership, analysis, and recommendations in support of the design, delivery and implementation of policies, priorities, service delivery and programmes of work across the National Bowel Screening Programme.

You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of swiftly assembling and synthesizing diverse information, knowledge, and analysis. You will be entrusted with handing complex, sensitive information, showcasing your unwavering drive to deliver results and take ownership of critical tasks.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience in a Principal Advisor Role (e.g. public health, public policy).
- Able to build constructive relationships, and as a Principal Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and partnerships both within our organisation and with external stakeholders
- Ability to draw on extensive specialised work experience typically supported with professional qualifications
- Leadership experience, including designing and managing a portfolio of work, and resources
- Significant experience working in central government and a thorough understanding of the machinery of Government
