At Tūhura Tech, our mission is to provide free technology education to children in the greater Wellington region. We believe every child should have the opportunity to learn about and engage with technology, regardless of their background or financial situation. We work closely with the community to offer sessions that meet tamariki and rangatahi where they are, whether in schools, libraries, or community centres. Through our programmes, we have reached over a thousand children.

**He aha te tūranga - About the role**

We are hiring Lead Mentors to work with tamariki and rangatahi (ages 8-18) in a fun, supportive learning environment. This permanent, part-time, in-person role offers 10 hours a week at $40 per hour. You will lead four 2-hour sessions per week (Monday to Thursday, 3.30 pm - 5.30 pm) with a potential for increased hours based on your expertise. Outside of sessions, you will complete remote work contributing to resource development.

As a Lead Mentor, you will be responsible for running technology-focused sessions, introducing young learners to various tech skills, and empowering them to explore their creativity.

The specific topics covered in each session will be shaped by the interests of the children, combined with your unique skills and expertise. Subjects covered have included game development, electronics, robotics, scratch, python, web design, and cybersecurity. We want you to share your passion and knowledge for technology to engage rangatahi.

During the training in the first 12 weeks, we will work with you to build your confidence engaging with rangatahi and prepare you to support our assistant mentors.

**Ko wai koe - About you**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience and an affinity for working with children
- Competence in working collaboratively in a team setting
- Health & Safety Certification (we can assist with this)

While prior experience mentoring children in technology is ideal, it’s not required. We offer comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident in leading sessions that educate, engage, and inspire young people, fostering a passion for technology.
