Position Description
**Director
- Thriving Communities**
We are looking for a Director to provide thought leadership towards the establishment of thriving communities across Rotorua by working alongside and in partnership with communities, iwi, key community providers and central government agencies..
This position is pivotal to embedding community wellbeing outcomes across council's strategies and initiatives, developing design-led thinking for community engagement, and co-design. This is an exciting time to lead the Thriving Communities team where as an enthusiastic talented leader you will be able to bring your strategic thinking and community development experience, ideas and know-how to the team to improve community resilience across the Rotorua district.
The Thriving Communities team is part of the Community Wellbeing Group which strives to support and provide services and functions that enable the people of Rotorua to thrive, building social cohesion and creating a sense of place.
Rotorua is in the heart of the Te Arawa region. 40% of the population are Maori. Being a bicultural city provides a foundation for us to recognise and celebrate our increasing diversity which enriches us as individuals and as a multi-cultural community.
Rotorua also has some complex challenges which require strong local leadership and collaboration to address. Over the last seven years in particular, an increasing trend of socio-economic deprivation in Rotorua has emerged that is adversely affecting our people, the visitor experience, and the ability to function as a thriving destination to live, work, play and invest.
Te Kaunihera o nga Roto o Rotorua (Rotorua Lakes Council) is committed to working in partnership with Te Arawa, our local iwi.
If you have proven positive strategic relationship management skills with iwi and key stakeholders, proven thought leadership for community wellbeing, and are an inspirational leader and developer of high performing teams, with a passion for Rotorua then you just might be the person we are looking for.
