Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Location: Wellington
Group: Archives and National Library
Branch: Partnerships and Commissions

**Salary**: $109,697 - $136,512

**About us**

As part of the Department of Internal Affairs, we are the kaitiaki of Aotearoa's documentary heritage. At Archives New Zealand and the National Library, we care for the records, stories, and knowledge that shape who we are as a nation. We collect, protect, and provide appropriate access to everything from government records to treasured taonga, working with communities, libraries, and archives across the motu and beyond to make sure the history and information that matter remain accessible for generations to come.

**Lead the Development of Aotearoa's Published Heritage**

E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga karangatanga maha o nga hau e wha, nau mai, haere mai. Greetings to the many authorities, voices, and experts of the world.

This is an opportunity for someone who understands the value of building a national collection for Aotearoa and is keen to provide leadership in this. As Team Leader, Acquisition and Legal Deposit, you'll oversee the acquisition of published material and the delivery of the Library's legal deposit responsibilities, ensuring that the documentary heritage of Aotearoa is collected, described, and preserved for users now and in the future.

In this role, you'll lead a team of librarians to deliver on national collecting strategies, develop and maintain strong relationships with publishers and creators, and provide expert guidance on legal deposit and acquisitions. You'll also work closely with curators, preservation teams and metadata specialists to ensure high-quality, efficient collection workflows across both physical and digital formats.

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from experienced professionals with:

- A strong background in library collection development and acquisitions
- Proven leadership experience, including managing teams of technical or specialist staff
- Familiarity with collection budgeting, procurement, licensing and documentation practices
- Experience building relationships with the publishing sector, GLAM institutions or content creators
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage risk and deliver on time
- An awareness of the impact of Te Tiriti o Waitangi on collecting practice and a commitment to supporting matauranga Maori
- An interest in the evolving world of digital publishing and its implications for collecting

You'll be someone who combines a love of collections with a clear sense of purpose and the ability to lead through change.

Hikoia te whetu, hikoia te marama, ka rere, ka rere. Stride over the stars. Stride over the moon, take flight.
