**About the role**:
TOMRA Food’s Auckland based mechanical engineering team works on exciting multi-disciplinary projects that involve developing new products in Packhouse automation, inspection systems, sorting machines and other fruit handling peripherals. We have close collaboration with engineering colleagues and the wider business in our Hamilton and Auckland offices.
There are many opportunities to develop and grow through challenging new projects, mentoring, and courses. The Development department releases new products that are competitive on a global scale, involving a varied array of manufacturing processes. We develop products all the way from the core scientific research teams, right the way through to fully released products that customers enjoy using.

**This role will see you**:
- Refining the design of existing products for performance, manufacturing, safety and cost effectiveness
- Produce estimates for resources and time required to deliver projects
- Producing engineering drawings and maintaining bill of materials for new and existing products
- Occasional site visits domestically and internationally to support and validate both new and existing products
- Producing complex mechanical designs to meet the project requirements and international regulations
- Deriving design requirements through identifying and communicating with project stakeholders
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers
**Qualifications**:
**About you**:
You’re an enthusiastic, creative problem solver who is keen to grow into the mechanical design engineering role.
**You will also have**:
- A tertiary degree in mechanical engineering, or similar
- Several years’ experience with machine design, experience with automation and compliance preferred
- Strong user of CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
- Out of the box thinking
- Attention to detail as well as the bigger picture
- A willingness to learn and grow
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally where necessary
- The ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Practical ability in the workshop
