**About The Role**:
Reporting to the CEO, the Policy and Issues Manager is a key member of the NZ Pork leadership team, and is responsible for supporting the collaboration, communication, and education of all stakeholders in the industry supply chain. The core focus of this role is to develop and implement NZ Pork's policy and issues strategies in the areas of animal health, animal welfare, biosecurity, food safety and sustainability, facilitating the growth and further development of this sector.

Key responsibilities include:

- To positively influence and develop key external relationships with central government, regulators, farmers, industry groups and other relevant key stakeholders
- Keeping up to date with global and domestic animal health, animal welfare, biosecurity and food safety & suitability issues/trends that will impact on the industry; and ensure NZ Pork’s compliance with statutory & legal requirements
- Working with value chain participants (gate to plate) to influence, develop and implement policy and preparedness strategies
- Leading projects around key issues, reporting regularly to management and board
- Contribute to the approach for marketing strategy.

**Skills & Experience**:

- An affinity for agriculture (or NZ food sector), with credibility in the sector
- The ability to think strategically, and be articulate and confident presenting to an audience; strong writing and communication skills
- A good understanding of global and domestic market sustainability, food safety, animal health and welfare, trade, environment and biosecurity issues; ability to quickly grasp key issues
- Knowledge and understanding of the NZ food and retail landscape and supply chain
- Good experience in policy management/interpretation of policy out of central government
