Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Permissions Treaty Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Permissions Team, you will provide expert advice on the application of the Treaty of Waitangi principles in the context of public conservation land use and protected wildlife interactions.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of operational policy and best practices related to the Treaty of Waitangi, identify training needs, and work towards a consistent national approach to train and mentor staff. Your expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that our activities on public conservation land protect the values of the land and comply with relevant legislation.

The work is varied, and each application presents a unique challenge. You will work closely with Permissions Advisors and decision-makers to ensure that applications are processed efficiently and effectively, while maintaining the high standards of professionalism and quality expected by our organization.

As a Senior Permissions Treaty Advisor, you will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with various stakeholder groups and industries, and contribute to shaping the future of conservation in New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert advice on the application of the Treaty of Waitangi principles in the context of public conservation land use and protected wildlife interactions
- Contribute to the development of operational policy and best practices related to the Treaty of Waitangi
- Identify training needs and work towards a consistent national approach to train and mentor staff
- Work closely with Permissions Advisors and decision-makers to process applications efficiently and effectively

Requirements

- Strong knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application in conservation contexts
- Experience working with planning and/or legislative processes
- Experience analyzing large amounts of complex information to produce high-quality reports and succinct recommendations
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritize tasks effectively
