This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in one of Aotearoa's most stunning National Parks, protecting and preserving our natural heritage for future generations. As a Conservation Landscapes Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining backcountry tracks, huts, and other infrastructure in the park.

The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) is committed to protecting and restoring nature across Aotearoa. This permanent, full-time role is based in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, offering breathtaking scenery and opportunities to work with important heritage sites.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and maintain backcountry tracks, huts, and other infrastructure
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks to ensure the integrity of the park's infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the field team to ensure that all tasks are completed safely and efficiently

You will also have the opportunity to work with helicopters, boats, and other vehicles to access remote areas of the park, and to coordinate office work, including data entry, planning, and organizing field trips.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have practical field skills, be fit and strong enough to undertake physical work, and enjoy working in the outdoors. Additionally, you should have sound communication skills, oral and written, and a full New Zealand driver's license class 1. Chainsaw competency and experience at the minimum level of NZQA 17766 are also essential.
