Job Overview

The Hamilton City Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Parks Planner Team Lead to join our team. This role will play a crucial part in leading a team that provides high-quality planning advice to protect, enhance, and enable the growth of Hamilton's open space network.

Key Responsibilities

The Parks Planner Team Lead will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team to provide high-quality planning advice
  • Fostering positive outcomes for staff and the community
  • Working effectively with stakeholders
  • Negotiating risk and applying mitigation strategies
  • Presenting complex information clearly and persuasively
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in parks and recreation planning, urban planning, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Political acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to community engagement and public service
  • Significant working experience with the Resource Management Act, Reserves Act, and Local Government Act
  • A good knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of tangata whenua values and protocols
  • Up-to-date knowledge of recreation and open space trends
