The Customer and Community Group within the council provides facilities and services that help create a safe, vibrant, and inclusive city. This position sits within this group and plays a crucial role in protecting, enhancing, and enabling the growth of Hamilton's open space network.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled professional to lead a team that provides high-quality planning advice on parks and reserves. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain long-term benefits for the community through effective planning and protection strategies.
Your Skills and Experience
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to foster positive outcomes for staff and the community
- At least 7-10 years of experience in parks and recreation planning, urban planning, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Political acumen and ability to negotiate risk and apply mitigation strategies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement and public service
- Significant working experience with the Resource Management Act, Reserves Act, and Local Government Act
- Good knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of tangata whenua values and protocols
- Project management skills including effective time management
- Up-to-date knowledge of recreation and open space trends
- A current full driver's license
