Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $60,314 to $75,603, with the starting salary based on relevant skills and experience.

Job Description:

This role is a critical part of our Marine District, working closely with colleagues across various workstreams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Community & Advocacy: supporting seasonal and advocacy ranger programs, planning and delivering outreach events, and engaging with the public regarding marine protection.
  • Critical Logistics: supporting Marine Protection Rangers with compliance case management, vessel maintenance planning, staff training monitoring, and legislative requirements for commercial vessels.
  • Statutory Activities: advising the Senior Ranger & Operations Manager on concessions & permit applications and monitoring reporting of existing permissions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with diverse individuals and teams, and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in report writing.
  • Outstanding time management skills, including prioritisation and maintaining high accuracy while meeting deadlines.
  • A broad understanding of conservation legislation and management, contributing to New Zealand's future sustainability.
  • A well-developed sense of cultural awareness, particularly in Te Ao Maori.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and take on additional tasks as reasonably required by DOC.
  • Commitment to marine sustainability and Te Papa Atawhai's Kaupapa.
  • Tertiary qualification in conservation or a related area.
  • The ability to communicate in multiple languages, with proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Te Reo Maori being highly desirable.
  • A full NZ Driving Licence, including manual vehicle operation.
