Conservation Leadership Position

Job Overview:
This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the conservation field as a Supervisor with the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for conservation, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with whanau, hapu, and iwi.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and coaching a small team of Treaty Implementation and Community Rangers in the Tamaki Makaurau region.
- Ensuring the delivery of statutory work in the region, including permission applications, Treaty settlement commitments, and other statutory obligations.
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders about key work programmes and ensuring priority work is delivered.
- Working collaboratively with whanau, hapu, and iwi to understand their aspirations and needs in relation to delivery of work.

- An understanding and connection to the concepts of Te Ao Maori, tikanga, and whakapapa.
- Proven leadership abilities and ability to mentor and manage staff.
- A commitment to excellence – sets high personal and professional standards; assumes responsibility and accountability for the success of the team.
- Strong computer literacy, proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, and cloud-based computing.
- Strong critical thinking and analysis skills, along with an ability to navigate and balance differing perspectives in relation to Department goals and policies.
- A passion for conservation.
- An understanding of the work of the Department and how it contributes to New Zealand's future sustainability.
- An understanding of relevant legislation and its application through statutory tasks.
- A full New Zealand driver licence, including the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
