Let's work together to preserve our natural treasures.We're seeking a Ranger Project Lead Treaty Implementation to spearhead the implementation of vital initiatives in collaboration with our Treaty partners.
This role is about fostering partnerships and ensuring that our conservation efforts align with Treaty obligations, aspirations and cultural values.The position will be focussed on:Building and maintaining positive relationships with whanau, hapu, iwi, fostering collaboration and resolving conflicts professionally.Supporting coordination of regular meetings with whanau, hapu and iwi to develop, review and amend implementation of relevant agreements, charters and protocols.Supporting opportunities for whanau, hapu and iwi to build their internal capabilities to practise their responsibilities as kaitiaki.Keeping up to date with changes in the Tamaki Makaurau iwi landscape and ensuring this information is shared with Operations.Identifying gaps in Treaty settlement implementation responsibilities across the District and working with the Operations team to plan for and remedy gaps, working with Regional Treaty Partnership Team staff to do so.Advising on and improving District processes for iwi engagement.Engaging with community groups and stakeholders to support them to grow their understanding of Treaty partnerships and support conservation outcomes.Supporting staff in the region to increase their cultural competency.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceYou will have great communication and engagement skills allowing a heightened sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
You will know how to engage effectively with mana whenua and show a willingness to learn karakia, pepeha and local tikanga to develop your capability in this area, allowing you to work effectively with whanau, hapu, and iwi.If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:Project management skills, ability to lead and work with others to deliver results.Whakawhanaungatanga – an ability to foster and develop relationships with colleagues, public and tangata whenua.Ability to engage and support the aspirations of tangata whenua in relation to conservation and Treaty settlements.Knowledge of the Tamaki Makaurau iwi landscape.Ability to navigate and balance differing perspectives while maintaining alignment with DOC goals.Familiarity with Treaty settlement processes and DOC obligations.Strong proficiency in computer systems and databases, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.Knowledge of te reo me ona tikanga Maori, supporting cultural understanding and partnership development.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.A passion for conservation and a desire to make a difference.Full New Zealand Driver's Licence, including the ability to drive a manual vehicle.Even if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to submit an application.Mo te tima | About the teamThe Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement and visitor centre teams.Nga ahuatanga kei a matou | What's in it for you?DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
