About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our District Nursing Service. The position covers both rural and urban bases within the Hamilton & Rural Family Health team, but is predominantly based in the Hamilton area.

The successful applicant will be required to work rostered duties, including weekends and some on-call, across a 7 day a week service with hours between 8am - 5pm.

District nurses provide a wide range of services in their local communities, often visiting people in their home. We work closely with allied health staff such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

The district nurse role includes advanced assessment, management, support and education for wound management, compression therapy, IV management, palliative/end of life care in the rural setting, continence assessment, catheter management, ostomy management, assessment for acute personal care and home help, support with home oxygen / respiratory patients, rheumatic fever secondary prevention prophylaxis and liaison/referrals with other health professionals.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A current New Zealand registered nurse practicing certificate
  • A full current NZ driver's licence with no restrictions
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse
  • The ability to work effectively within a team
  • Sensitivity to cultural aspects and the ability to apply the Treaty of Waitangi principles to practice
  • Excellent assessment skills and time management
  • The ability to work autonomously

An orientation program will be provided, and the start date can be negotiated.

Key Requirements

This role requires the following qualifications:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New Zealand
  • Valid full driver's license with no restrictions
  • At least 3 years' experience working as an RN in any field

You should have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically.
