We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Conservator to join our team. This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the conservation department, ensuring the safe stewardship and presentation of our art collections.

The key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Oversight of the conservation department's daily operations, including staff supervision, budget management, and resource allocation.
  • Development and implementation of conservation programmes and policies, ensuring the safe stewardship and presentation of our art collections.
  • Collaboration with other departments to promote conservation research and educate the public.

Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • A master's degree or PhD (or the equivalent) in conservation or a related field, with accreditation with a professional body of conservation such as the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials (NZCCM), AICCM, ICON, or AIC.
  • At least 10 years of experience working as a conservator, with extensive and wide-ranging experience in the complex treatment of unique and irreplaceable artworks.
  • Familiarity with CRM software and a current driving licence are advantageous.
