About the Role

Television New Zealand Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Kaiurungi Maori Editor to lead the development and delivery of our Rautaki Maori strategy.

In this leadership role, you will oversee the further growth and success of our Maori language and culture initiatives across our newsroom.

You will work closely with Te Kahui Maori, Manukura Maori Prof. Scotty Morrison, and the Te Karere team to provide editorial insight and oversight to general News and Current Affairs programmes.

Your focus will be on promoting an enhanced awareness and inclusiveness of the importance of Maori / tangata whenua perspectives and voices in news coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Rautaki Maori strategy
  • Provide editorial guidance and support to staff
  • Collaborate with senior editorial team to promote Maori inclusion
  • Ensure accurate representation of te reo Maori and concepts from te ao Maori

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in journalism and writing
  • Excellent judgment and editing skills
  • Good knowledge of te ao Maori and its applications
  • Familiarity with digital landscape and social media platforms
  • Strong relationship management skills
