About the Role

The Mental Health and Addiction Services at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join their team. The successful candidate will provide quality specialist psychiatry services across Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams, working alongside skilled Nursing and Allied Health staff.

The role is based at the Timaru Hospital campus, where the team delivers a Strengths Based Model of Care. This approach prioritizes client-centered care, focusing on individual strengths and potential rather than deficits. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of clients and contribute to the development of a whanau-centered care approach.

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Eligibility for Vocational Registration with the NZ Medical Council and/or Fellowship of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent)
  • Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives that give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines
