Te Papa is recruiting for a Strategic Advisor Iwi Relationships to support the development and strengthening of relationships with iwi and Māori organisations. The successful candidate will work as part of the Ngā Manu Atarau directorate, leading and driving the implementation of te reo me ngā tikanga, te ao Māori, and Te Papa's ability to meet its Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

The Kaitohutohu Rautaki-ā-Iwi Strategic Advisor Iwi Relationships will act as an advocate for iwi within Te Papa, and an advocate for Te Papa with iwi, while exemplifying manaakitanga, and seeking opportunities to enhance engagement and interactions between Te Papa and Māori.

This role offers the chance to be at the interface of mātauranga Māori and science, looking for partnership opportunities in the natural environment for Māori and Te Papa.

  • You have proven ability to manage and deliver complex iwi or kaupapa Māori projects
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills, including demonstrated experience in consultation and negotiation
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implementation
  • You can see the opportunity of the maramataka Māori programme connecting with Māori tohunga, mātanga, practitioners, and communities to unlock and revitalise practice, Māori science and research and our connection to the natural world

This is a permanent, full-time role joining our Iwi Relationships Team whānau with some scope for flexible work and working from home.
