We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Environmental Management Specialist to join our Land Development team.

About the role:

As an Environmental Management Specialist, you will play a key role in balancing the interests of various stakeholders to develop pragmatic solutions to complex resource management issues. These solutions will contribute to Greater Wellington's community outcomes of a strong economy, healthy environment, and a connected, resilient, and engaged community.

You will be responsible for assisting Greater Wellington to carry out its resource management responsibilities under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). This includes providing advice and guidance on natural resource management, processing resource consent applications, conducting compliance inspections, auditing self-monitoring data and reports, responding to environmental incidents, and carrying out associated investigations and enforcement action.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience in the RMA and planning disciplines, as well as a broad perspective from their experience working with councils, central government, private practice/consulting firms, community, iwi, or volunteer groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert advice on natural resource management
  • Processing resource consent applications
  • Conducting compliance inspections and audits
  • Responding to environmental incidents and carrying out associated investigations and enforcement action
