About the Role:
As a Community Ranger with the Department of Conservation, you will have the opportunity to contribute to conservation outcomes in the Tongariro District. This role involves working within a statutory framework, collaborating with iwi and external groups on conservation projects, and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process permit applications for activities such as structures on conservation land, aircraft activity, commercial recreation, and works approvals for existing operators.
  • Monitor commercial and private activity on Public Conservation Land.
  • Support whanau, hapu, and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao.
  • Work with community groups to scope work projects on conservation land.
  • Promote the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
We are looking for an individual who is a proven team player, well-organized and great at relationships, communication, and problem-solving. You will be comfortable working with whanau, hapu, and iwi and have a good understanding of te ao Maori me nga tikanga. Experience working within a statutory framework or similar process-based analytical environment is essential. A collaborative, team-player work style and excellent communication skills are also required.
