We are looking for someone with transferable skills that will allow them to hit the ground running with the support of our team to cover this duration.
Would suit someone who is returning to the workforce in this field or who is starting off on their professional journey looking for real-life development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an accountant to support the accounting processes.
We are looking for a team player with good experience in accounting principles and procedures.
This is a full-time position based in Palmerston North; however, we would consider a minimum of 32 hours for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities include preparing the Annual Report for both Horizons and our Council Controlled Organisation in accordance with accounting standards.
Day-to-day duties involve reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and month-end processes.
The role also includes reviewing payment approvals, preparing Balance Sheet reconciliations, contributing to Council monthly reporting, and working with external auditors during the audit process.
Strong analytical skills are essential for ensuring data accuracy, identifying variances, and resolving potential accounting issues.
About youTo be successful in this role, you will be self-motivated and able to interact well with other staff and our customers.
You will have developed practical skills and experience with financial processing.
Attention to detail is key along with the ability to work with numbers and proven analytical skills.
You will also need the ability to collect, collate, retrieve, and report on financial information from within our systems, including multiple large data sets.
The successful applicant will have:
Appropriate tertiary qualification (essential)Previous experience in a Financial Accounting roleCA or ACA or equivalent (desirable)Excellent verbal presentation and business writing skillsAbility to meet deadlines and work to tight timeframesResults-oriented, while curious to understand the 'why' of the resultsAble to create and manage strong relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds.About usThe Horizons region extends over 22,200 km² – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east.
