The increasing number of our Tokelau scholarship students in New Zealand means we need a Scholarship Liaison Officer to provide on-the-ground support for our students in mainly tertiary institutions, and some senior secondary schools.
This position Applications are invited for a qualified and experienced person to support our Tokelau scholarship students studying in New Zealand.
The position specifically calls for an independent contractor resident in New Zealand.
Purpose of the role To contribute to the effectiveness of the Government of Tokelau Scholarship Scheme by providing a range of functions that contribute to the success of our students Key Areas of Responsibility * * Based on students' scholarship offers, liaise with relevant tertiary institutions and schools to ensure students are placed in relevant programs that respond to Tokelau's development priorities and students' interests * Advice students on course planning, degree, or program requirements either in group situations or individual interviews; support students with registration, enrolments, career advice, and counselling * Provide proactive pastoral care to scholarship recipients and undertake liaison visits to connect to students and their program leaders * Coordinate and facilitate communications and working relationships between the students and learning support services within the institutions to ensure that students access the support they need * Deliver a range of effective events where feasible e.g.
orientation of new students * Attend school careers evenings/expos where possible for students in senior secondary schools * Secure accommodation, and provide support to ensure students access essential services e.g.
bank accounts, transport, health care, shopping * Assist with all travel arrangements within New Zealand, accompany and settle new students in their place of study * Liaise with key agencies to explore opportunities to enhance trade training pathways for Tokelau through apprenticeship * Monitor students' academic performance and progress as well as manage students' disciplinary issues; provide performance and progress reports * Maintain effective working relationships with liaison officers in the different institutions Qualification and experience Essential * A university degree.
* A full New Zealand driver's license.
Technical skills and knowledge: Essential * Ability to work with and relate to senior secondary students and young adults.
* Ability to speak effectively to small and large groups of different ages and backgrounds, using appropriate audio-visual aids.
* Competence in speaking with senior school managers and leaders in tertiary institutions, and relevant industry bodies * Demonstrable career counselling skills and experience.
* Detailed knowledge of secondary education pathways, especially of Years 12-13, NCEA, and University Entrance requirements * A high level of writing, editing, and proofreading skills; computer literacy * Familiarity with New Zealand tertiary education systems and NZQA policies and practices.
* Familiarity with NZ industry trade training pathways * Familiarity with current issues in NZ education * Familiarity with Tokelau's national and education strategic direction Special requirements * This role involves extended travel throughout New Zealand, both driving and flying, including several trips per year to institutions of study * Must be physically able to undertake required travel * Availability to work in the evenings during the week as required.
Nature of positionThe position specifically calls for an independent contractor resident in New Zealand.
The salary offered is within the Band 6 Specialist scale of the Tokelau remuneration framework.
