He angitutanga: The opportunity
You will be protecting our environment and community by investigating complaints relating to complex breaches and at times, serious offences and holding those responsible to account. No two days are the same as you investigate a wide variety of issues including (but not limited to): breaches of the Building Act for unconsented building works; breaches of the Resource Management Act such as a breach against the Auckland Unitary Plan; removal or damage of our protected trees; and pollution incidents, and serious breaches of the Auckland Council Bylaws making sure offenders are identified and quality investigations are undertaken. We often achieve this through a multi-agency approach working closely with internal and external partners. The role will require you to prepare cases for enforcement action up to and including giving evidence in court.
This is a permanent full-time position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with on-call work as required.

Investigative experience is preferable but significant relevant regulatory compliance experience will be considered. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field e.g. Risk / Compliance Management, Resource Management, Building and Construction, Law, Science will be beneficial, as will knowledge of relevant statutory documents, the RMA, Building Act 2004, and other relevant legislation.
You are a strong team player, able to demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant legislation. A current full clean driver's licence is essential and if successful you will be warranted by Auckland Council allowing you to enter premises and inspect breaches or offences.
Nga ahuatanga kei a matou: What we offer

Our diverse Compliance Unit offers opportunities to move both sideways and upwards. You'll also have access to the council's fantastic benefits scheme, including subsidised Leisure Centre membership.
