Te Tari Rautaki Rangahau Matatika | Office of Research Strategy and Integrity (ORSI) supports the work of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland by enabling the delivery of the University's core research functions and strategic Research and Innovation (R&I) priorities.Job DescriptionWe are seeking an Animal Ethics Committee Manager to join our Research Ethics Team.
In this role, you will provide high-quality support and advice to the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and other Research Ethics Committees as required.
You will work to maintain regulatory compliance standards in the Research Ethics Team and work with the Animal Welfare Officer (AWO) and Biological Safety Officer (BSO) as necessary under the direction of the Head of Research Ethics.
You will need strong governance skills and the ability to work in collaboration across the Research Ethics Team.Other responsibilities of the role are:Provide expert advice on University-specific governance policies, improvements, processes and systems.Coordinate committee agendas, minutes, adverse event reporting, and support meetings including membership updates.Assist with reviewing AEC applications (or other committees as required) including making determinations about the amendment pathway.Prepare other relevant information and reports required by institutional policies or legislation.This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent contract.
The salary range for this role is $96,800 - $119,500 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.Our suitable candidate will meet these requirements:Experience leading a research, regulatory assurance, animal ethics or regulatory compliance team, preferably in animal ethics and working in a university, Crown Research Institute (CRI), MPI, or other relevant organisation.Ability to pre-screen research ethics proposals with a focus on animal ethics applications.Strong leadership and mentoring capability.Ability to recognise, respond, and manage risk to a regulatory team's systems and processes and implement efficient and effective strategies to support Committee processes and procedures to ensure UOA and external regulatory obligations.Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a strong focus and experience of performance & service metrics.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience conveying complex ideas and concepts.Ability to build trust, form strong partnerships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.Ability to develop and deliver training programmes.High level of computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite, and a solid ability to quickly develop expertise with new software and the Ethics RM research ethics management system.The University of Auckland is committed to providing an excellent working environment through:Flexible employment practices.A competitive salary with five weeks' annual leave.Company superannuation scheme, discounted car parking, a generous parental leave allowance, childcare and a number of other discounts on internal and external services.Applications must be submitted online by the closing date of 21/03/2025 to be considered.
